About Me
I’m Jan Smith. I learn and teach in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.
I love being a generalist teacher because there are no limits to integration across the curriculum with my Grade 6 students. In the words of the perpetually optimistic, it’s all good.
I’m working on a master’s degree in educational leadership, and trying to be a better teacher. My family inspires me, as do my friends, colleagues, and students. I find plenty to chew own in other people’s blogs, and seem to discover something that makes me go “hmmm” every time I check my aggregator. I enjoy unpacking ideas, looking for the essence and the next layer of questions.
Most of my blog energy has gone into Huzzah!, my class blog, and shepherding (not sure if that’s the right term: read focusing, attending, caring for) my 27 student bloggers. I am conducting my action research on student engagement and blogging.
This blog? I am hoping it becomes a place for me to sift through my own thinking about teaching, learning, technology, leadership, creativity, and communication, to “see what gets stuck and what falls through”. So, more reflective than practical, but still pragmatic. I hope over time to receive (re-sieve) feedback from others because it helps me polish my thinking. I value the dialogue.
Please leave your mark.
